Oscar Bautista

Hey! I'm a software engineer with experience building scalable backend services and a passion for creating great user experiences. I'm currently a co-founder and software engineer at TourneyMate, where I'm working on a cross-platform app that simplifies pickleball tournament management. In the past, I've worked at Greenlight Financial Technology building money movement services that served over 1 million families, and at NCR developing transaction management microservices for their small-business point-of-sale systems.

I have experience with both frontend and backend development and enjoy working across the stack to deliver comprehensive solutions. I have a strong background in building microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures, as well as creating intuitive user interfaces.

When I'm not coding, some of my passions include film photography, bouldering, baking, hiking, pickleball, and tinkering with keyboards. Feel free to check out my past experience or some of my favorite film photos below. :)

Contribute to the development of a cross-platform pickleball tournament management app using React Native, TypeScript, Expo, and Firebase.
Build custom form validation systems, bracket creation flows, and real-time data updates via Cloud Firestore.

Greenlight Financial Technology

Software Engineer I, II

August 2021 – April 2024

Developed and maintained money movement services as part of the Money Movement Platform team, supporting Greenlight’s partnership with Chase Bank and enabling secure transfers and family financial management for over 1 million families.
Refactored monolith service endpoints into scalable microservices using Kotlin, Spring Boot, Node.js, and TypeScript, improving reliability and service ownership.
Transitioned to the Partner Enablement team following company reorganization; built backend services using Typescript and Next.js to support partner integrations, including white-label apps and employee benefit programs.
Played a meaningful role in delivering a flagship partnership launch with U.S. Bank by contributing to front-end and backend systems powering white-label employee registration and activation flows. This mission-critical integration helped expand Greenlight’s partner ecosystem and enterprise footprint.
Implemented event-driven backend services leveraging AWS SNS, SQS, and EventBridge, facilitating reliable partner notification and asynchronous processing.
Contributed to secure partner integrations using mTLS authentication and AWS Secrets Manager, supporting high-trust, externally facing financial workflows.

NCR Corporation

Software Engineer I, II

February 2019 – August 2021

Developed features for the small-business, back-office refactor effort; helping convert a struggling monolith into scalable microservices with stream processing using Kafka and Samza.
Created new services for saving transaction data, aggregation of sales reports, and logging point-of-sale data using Scala and Java with the Play framework.
Used Ansible and Terraform in conjunction with Jenkins, Rundeck, and Docker for the deployment of services and jobs.
Spearheaded the implementation of Google Pub/Sub into our Samza architecture to consume and produce data for integrations with other NCR products and services.
Modified services to use PostgreSQL and Bigtable instead of Cassandra (as well as migrate the data) as part of our effort to migrate from Amazon Web Services to Google Cloud Platform.
Helped the online ordering team perform a full-fledged refactorization of their system, using React, to handle the increased sale volume at the beginning of the pandemic.

Helped promote, improve, and empower Computer Science/Technology education and students interested in it by providing resources, events, and workshops in the Athens-Clarke County area through the ElevateCS program.
